Oral health is super important and your overall health starts from there. Why? Because your mouth is the entrance through which you get substance into your body for energy and nourishment.
And if you don’t take proper care of your mouth, your overall health could be in trouble.
The same applies to beauty. A smile is a beautiful form of gesture. With all the make up and cool outfit, if you don’t (or can’t?!) smile, that doesn’t add to the beauty.
But for many people smiling is dangerous because they could expose their yellow, or stained teeth.
It is nearly impossible to hide your teeth, because you open your mouth to speak, eat and smile (and of course for many other things).
So it becomes highly mandatory that you maintain a clean white teeth to avoid embarrassment.
Teeth whitening is a big industry, and can turn out quite expensive too. But in this post I am going to share not-so-expensive ways to whiten your teeth.
Coconut oil pulling
I recently wrote about oil pulling and its health benefits. One of the major benefits of oil pulling is teeth whitening.
And I’ve personally experienced this myself.
Oil pulling is super simple where you put about a tablespoonful of oil in your mouth, first thing in the morning, and swish it for about 20 minutes.
And then spit it into the trash can. Rinse well with warm water and then brush as you would normally do.
Consistency is the key with oil pulling. You won’t get instant, overnight effects. You will need to do it consistently And teeth whitening is just one benefit. You can get a lot of other health benefits with oil puling.
Teeth whitening with activated charcoal
I’m sure this sounds crazy. Coating your teeth with something utterly black and then expect your teeth to become white?
Yes, it does sound crazy, but it works. I’ve tried this personally too.
In fact, during ancient times, ancestors from my side of the globe used this to brush their teeth regularly.
Just dip your toothbrush into a bottle/jar of activated charcoal and brush as normal. Make sure you cover all angles of your teeth for best results.
Then rinse well with water. This treatment gives instant results. And works in the long run too.
Turmeric
Just like activated charcoal, turmeric is also something that would stain anything yellow. Your clothes, table top, kitchen top, and even your skin will get the yellow stain due to turmeric. But not your teeth.
Brush your teeth with turmeric powder and rinse as usual. You might have to do a follow up brushing if you are not comfortable with the taste.
Doing this once a week will give you reliable results.
Lemon and baking soda; separate or together!
Both lemon and baking soda work great to whiten your teeth. The acidic nature of lemon and abrasive nature of baking soda help with teeth whitening.
However, don’t do this too often as this can damage the enamel of your teeth.
You can use either of these separate. Or together. However, make sure you don’t leave the mixture for more than a minute on your teeth. Brush and rinse immediately.
What else you can do to avoid to your teeth from getting stained and have white teeth?
Eat a lot of crunchy vegetables. Especially carrots. They can help remove the food particles and stains from your mouth.
If you chew your veggies (like carrot) after a meal, it will act like a toothbrush and scrub away the food particles and stains from your mouth.
You should also brush your teeth after each meal to ensure that the food you eat doesn’t stain your teeth. Over the time, such stains build up and change the color of your teeth.
Especially after eating or drinking stuff like coffee, that can stain your teeth, you should brush. You can also avoid or reduce the usage of such staining foods/drinks if possible.
Flossing is something you shouldn’t miss!

This is some really good information about teeth whitening. I am getting married in a few months and I want to have a whiter smile for my wedding photos. I didn’t realize that chewing on veggies can help you whiten your teeth. It does seem like it would be smart to talk to a dentist about faster ways to whiten my teeth.

I really like that you talked about coconut oil pulling. I’m trying to get my teeth whiter, but I’m not very familiar with natural methods. Maybe I’ll have to try some coconut pulling. Do you have any other tips about getting whiter teeth if these tips don’t work out?
