Using coconut oil for face? Coconut oil cleanse? You think, I’m crazy right? Hold on for a moment.
For a very long time, I was afraid to get oil any close to my face. I was so afraid that I could end up with breakout or an oily face.
I was so afraid to even try it out once.
But recently I started researching more about oils. In particular coconut oil.
I was amazed to find out the benefits of coconut oil. I use it for oil pulling. I use it for cooking. And yes, on my face too.
Why is coconut oil good for your face?
Coconut oil is anti-microbial, which means it is a great cleanser. It is rich in Caprylic acid and Lauric acid. These acids protect your skin from microbial infections.
Since your facial skin also has numerous pores, there is a high chance that microbes enter through them and cause infections.
Also since face is exposed to lots of dust and microbes, microbial infection is quite common. Coconut oil covers you on this.
It is also a great anti-oxidant. So coconut oil acts as an anti-ageing agent and also nourishes your skin and fights wrinkles.
It is also rich in Vitamin E and hence great for maintaining the smooth texture of your skin.
How to use coconut oil for your face (coconut oil cleanse)?
There aren’t lots of steps involved and the process is quite simple!
Take a few drops of coconut oil in your palm and rub your palms together to warm up the oil a bit.
Apply the oil all over your face with your palm and fingers. Add a few more drops of oil if you want more. But you don’t want to coat your face in oil. Little goes a long way!
Once you have applied oil all over your face and neck, massage your face in circular motion with your finger tips. Do this for 2 minutes.
Now take a wash cloth and dip it in hot water (or hold it under running hot water). Wring out all the excess water and quickly, while the cloth is still hot, place it over your face. And relax.
You can repeat this up to 3 times. The warm wash cloth will help open up your pores so the oil gets deep inside and cleanses.
Once done, you can gently wipe the oil with the wash cloth – you don’t have to scrub or be harsh.
You don’t even have to wash your face with soap. If you leave it as such, the oil will be absorbed into your skin for a long lasting moisturizing effect.
You can do this 2-3 times a week to maintain a fresh and moisturized skin.
Since coconut oil is a light oil, it will be much easily absorbed by your skin.
As always, don’t forget to do your own tests. Apply coconut area to a small are of your skin to see if you have any adverse effects.
Mostly, your skin should be fine. But if you experience any breakouts, you should stop doing this treatment.
Try out coconut oil to clean and moisturize your face and let me know how your skin improves!
